Tori Ashton
Tori Ashton is a second year Psychology and Sociology concentrator at Brown University. Over
the course of her three years as a Summer intern at the CF Center, Tori has used her unique
skill set to complete a variety of projects including Quality Improvement, communications
initiatives and publishing, as well as clinical and research based projects in an effort to support
and optimize the center and its team. This year, her focus has been on producing the Summer
newsletter to keep our community informed and foster engagement.

 

Haylee Schwind
Haylee is third year Biochemistry major at American University. This is her second year interning
for the CF center. This year she helped run the CF Family day event as well as design the
graphics for upcoming presentations. She additionally shadowed Sybil Goday-Pena, the clinical
pharmacist for cystic fibrosis, crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

 

Sam (Ennio) Tuna
Sam is a rising senior at Stony Brook University studying Economics and currently in a 5-year
program for a Master’s in Business Administration. This will be his third year working at the CF
Center. Earlier this summer, he worked for the Online Family Day program, making bilingual
informational flyers and assisted throughout the event. He is in the process of revising and
updating the Curriculum Vitae for staff at the CF Center, as well as creating a Meet the Staff
section for the CF Newsletter in both English and Spanish.

 

Stella Haralambou
Stella Haralambou is an incoming junior at Fordham University. She is
a psychology major on the pre-health track and is interested in neuropsychology. This
summer, she has focused on sleep studies at both Fordham University and the CF Center. At
the CF center, she is researching the cognitive effects of CF modulators and their impact on
sleep quality. These findings will be presented to my peers in preparation for conducting a
research study of the effects of these modulators on sleep patterns of patients with CF.

 

Nick Plachta
Nicholas Plachta is a senior in high school focusing on advocacy on the local and national
levels. His research includes what bills are currently affecting people living with CF such as The
Pasture Act. To help understand the role of a CF advocate, he interviewed Melissa Shiffman,
former National Advocacy co chair. This interview will be published in the CF centers newsletter
to help families become advocates themselves
